There Is Something Really Special Happening
And You Need To Be Involved
On 30th September 1922, 15 eager chaps from Guildford took on 15 more from Dorking at Stoke Hill Farm in the first Rugby Match to be played by Guildford RFC. We know little more about the fixture itself or the chaps that played (other than unfortunately Dorking won 11 – 9) but we do know that that ‘friendly’ encounter almost 100 years ago needs celebrating.
Because that Club – under its several different guises - was the start of what has happened every year since, something that we continue to do every Saturday and Sunday to this day – play Rugby for Guildford RFC.
Next Season then sees the 100th anniversary of that game and the Club intends to ensure that we remember it well and celebrate it accordingly. People are beginning to get together to plan events throughout the Centenary Season. There are already Anniversary Games, Junior Festivals, Sectional Dinners and an End of Season Ball going into the diary. A commemorative Book is being written and merchandising planned.
But this is only worthwhile if you and yours take part.
We need you to help with organisation, we need you to assist in publicity and we need you to take part in the events as they happen. We need you to help your colleagues celebrate this historic occasion for Rugby in your locale.
So, please contact Michael O’Sullivan on mosullivan03@gmail.com and offer your assistance. Any help, no matter how large or small, is welcome. You will be surprised the difference you can make to the events of the 2022 / 2023 Anniversary Season and the charities we will be supporting during it.
