This week's news

The Vets kicked us off last weekend, taking on Old Reigatian Vets on Friday night under lights (mostly!) and finishing well to come out on top in a tough game – read the full match report for the gory details! Saturday saw the 1st XV take on Rochford Hundred, who had taken a try bonus in every game so far this season. In an even opening spell Guildford were unfortunate to concede an early penalty try and a straight yellow, but the team dug in and organised well to restrict the scoring to just one try in the first half to go in 0-12 down. This proved to be the final score as dogged defence on both sides limited opportunities and thrilled the strong home support – thank you to everyone who came down. The 2nd XV closed out the day as they welcomed Cobham to Broadwater for the first time in some years, quickly asserting their dominance in the pack to pull in front early on. In a tight match the lead changed hands several times and Guildford were unlucky to have a late score chalked off for double-movement, but shut down the opposition well in the final 10 minutes to win by a point 22-21.

We have a full weekend coming up, with three games and the Vets lunch (only a few spaces left!) at home this Saturday so parking spaces will be at a premium – get down early and don’t forget the cow bells! The 1st and 2nd XVs take on Dorking on Saturday at 2:30 while the 3rd XV host Weybridge Vandals, with the Gazelles travelling to Portsmouth on Sunday in their penultimate fixture before Christmas!

The results from the September International 50 draw are:
1st Prize Tim Adams £240
2nd Prize Dick Grillo £140
3rd prize Adrian Voller £100
