Sad news about Brenda Roper, Club Safeguarding Officer

Guildford Rugby Club is sad to report that our Safeguarding Officer, Brenda Roper, passed away on 1st April.

Brenda was our Safeguarding Officer for over 3 years, having been persuaded to take on the role by a colleague of hers who knew the club needed someone with safeguarding experience.  She did a wonderful job for us and gave up much of her time to ensure our young players were protected and that all safeguarding principles and good practice were followed.  Brenda very much enjoyed being part of our community and using her knowledge and expertise doing something worthwhile for Guildford Rugby Club.

Brenda's main passion was her family, followed swiftly by employment law and she was highly qualified in her field.  She held Masters degrees in employment law and business administration and was also a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development.   She held various roles throughout her long and extensive career, including as a Senior Advisor at ACAS.  Brenda's specialist interest was in safeguarding, where her work at Guildford Rugby Club was of great value.

Brenda had a great sense of humour and enjoyed working in her garden – and when she had time, she liked to relax with a glass of robust red wine.  We are going to miss Brenda enormously and we’ll raise a glass to her over the coming days,

We send our sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time and would like to record our gratitude for the tremendous work that she did tirelessly on behalf of Guildford RFC.   Rest in peace Brenda and thank you from all of us.
