Colts B vs Teddington B, Sunday 3rd March

Guildford Colts 2nd XV 46 - Teddington B 22

Sunday 3rd March 2023

On paper, the scoreline would indicate a runaway victory, but this would do disservice to a valiant Teddington team who were resilient all the way to the final whistle.  Indeed, the half time scoreline of 12 – 10 to Guildford is probably a fairer visual representation of a game that swung back and forth between two teams with a similar playing style.  Guildford were narrowly ahead due to two superbly athletic tries (from Freddie Von Hesse and Henry Emerson) and a well taken conversion from Ollie Taylor.

Led superbly by captain Charlie Seymour, the team came out strong, looking to make a mark.  Following a quick trade of unconverted tries (Emerson once again finishing strongly) to take the score to 17 -15, a purple patch of four unanswered tries took the game away from Teddington.  Despite being all scored by forwards, the tries came from a mixture of brute strength and flowing hands.  Will Morris and Ben Newman scored with strong carries close to the line, whilst Freddie VH and Archie Johnson finished off two well worked scores.  Fullback Reece Young hit one conversion (all from difficult angles), but moment of the match goes to tight head prop Ben Newman for drop kicking the conversion from his own score.

Teddington remained valiant until the end, scoring a converted try before Ollie Taylor crossed for the final time to bring the score to 46 – 22, the kick from near the touchline going agonizingly wide.

The successful Guildford team now welcome Warlingham to Broadwater Park on Sunday in the Hampstead Cup semifinals. Kick off 1.30pm, support greatly appreciated.
