U14s Waterfall Cup Report

Match report - U14

The U14s completed their 15 aside unbeaten season with victory over London Welsh in the final of the Waterfall Cup (non-streamed). The game started with two very good scores from a well organised London Welsh team who showed impressive line speed in defence and a very attractive expansive game in attack. However, as we have become accustomed to, the squad stepped up in the second and third quarters with ferocious defence and surging runs to score a number of excellent tries including from deep in our own half. London Welsh came back in the fourth quarter to score again but we remained strong to take the win 31-21. We thank London Welsh for such a competitive and exciting game fitting of the final.

At the start of the season, we took the decision as a coaching team to play non streamed and to select any player available. This culminated in a squad yesterday of 30 players, all of whom played an important role in the journey to the final and yesterday’s victory.

The game was the first opportunity that the players have had on the big stage of Pitch 1 and a big thank you to everyone who provided such positive and vociferous support.

Throughout the year we have had a great parent coaching team consistently augmented by Aidan and fantastic sessions with Tom and Ollie. Tom EJ and team have produced high quality food that has allowed us to proudly host our opponents in our impressive function room. We are also thankful to Adrian and the ops team for keeping the grounds in great shape and we have benefitted greatly from the Pitch 4 playing surface.

After the 7s competitions of the next few weeks we are looking forward to the off-season Wednesday night touch with the rest of the youth players.
