Surrey Waterfall Tankard Final

Guildford U13s 5 – 10 Dorking U13s

Guildford U13 girls took on local rivals Dorking in the Surrey Waterfall Tankard final, kindly hosted by Old Rutlitians on Sunday (9th April 2019)

Both sides were struggling to field full squads due to the school holidays, so captains agreed on a 7 a side format with rolling subs.  Having trained with Dorking U13s we knew we were in for a battle but our girls stuck to the plan.

Our tackling was fierce, stemming countless attacks resulting in some good turnover ball.  With no subs for Guildford, the hard pitch took its toll with several players carrying some heavy knocks and bruises but none of them wanted to leave the pitch.  By half time we trailed 4:3.  The Dorking bench bolstered the strength in attack as they went on to score a couple of quick tries via their ever dominant left wing. Guildford score 2 team tries to finish the match trailing 10:5. A superb effort by the girls, who never gave up, despite the larger opposition squad.

Our sincere thanks to Chloe Butler for not only coaching the girls this season but acting as an inspiring role model to them.

With our inaugural season complete, we will now reflect on the significant achievements this season, plan for 2019-20 and work more closely with the club, parents, local schools and the community to build a strong, successful and sustainable girls section here at GRFC.

If GRFC members know of any girls that wish to come and try out rugby, please contact Susan Payne on 07717288115.
