The U13 As won a hard-fought away match against London Irish 5-3. London Irish were much improved on last season and, determined for revenge, came out the blocks strongly in the first half, going 2-1 ahead before GRFC scored two quick tries (one a great opportunist try from captain Elliot Shepherd) to go into the break 3-2. Both sides tired in the second half and, in the end, GRFC’s superior defence and fitness won the day. A good win but plenty to work on for future matches.
A final away score of 8-3 against Irish saw a successful start to the season for the U13 B1’s. The boys that were selected from B2’s gave an excellent performance. All boys should be proud, but notably, Chris Carpenter for his two tries, Toby Waddell at scrum half, Oliver Taylor, outside centre, for his penetrating runs and Lochy Ellis Jones, full back, for his support play.
