TWO Club Captains This Season!

Guildford Rugby Club is proud to announce that players and members of the Club will be represented by Co-Club Captains for the new 2018/2019 season in recognition of the size and importance of the Club Captain’s role in covering the whole club from the Micros through to the Vets and Supporters. Sarah Sanderson of the Gazelles and Gerry Hill of the Senior Playing Squad & Coaching Team take over from Alex Plaistowe who stepped down after five years in the post at the end of last season. The Club would like to thank Alex for his contribution over that time and for the legacy he leaves behind.

I was thrilled to be invited to take on the role of Co-Club Captain for the new season. I regard it as a huge honour to be the first woman to take on this role at Guildford Rugby Club and I am very much looking forward to working with Gerry Hill, my partner in crime. I would also like to thank the previous incumbent, Alex Plaistow (Playdoh!) for doing such a great job during his tenure in the role – he obviously did a good job as it’s now taken two of us to replace him! I have been involved in rugby since leaving university and have played for the Guildford Gazelles since 2012. Previously, I played at Camberley. I have also played representative rugby for Surrey and the South of England Women’s teams. My teammates consider me to be loyal, approachable and a good leader on the pitch – qualities I believe that will stand me in good stead for my new role as Co-Club Captain. But enough about me; I would like to wish all the sides at Guildford Rugby Club – from the U7’s through to the Vets – the very best of luck for the coming season. We have 19+ Teams and approaching a 1000 Players at Guildford which not only signifies the strength of this club but also the enormity of the job that Gerry and I have undertaken and I look forward to representing Guildford Rugby Club and it’s Players in anyway I can. Let’s have Fun and make 2018/19 a season to Remember!

Having settled into Godalming fairly recently, I have really enjoyed and thrived in Guildford RFC’s warmth. Being new to any area can obviously be a bit overwhelming, but through the fraternity of rugby, my wife Annie and I have been made to feel incredibly welcome here. As a community club with great potential, I hope that my rugby experiences globally – from the USA to France, and across a range of levels – from National 3 (Bracknell RFC) to the Championship (Birmingham & Solihull RFC and London Scottish FC), I can help the club to sustainably achieve its goals. I’m passionate that rugby is, and always will be a players’ game and am committed to ensuring that there is a genuine opportunity for players of all ages and abilities at Guildford RFC to realise their potential and fulfil their ambitions. We are very lucky to have the best coaching available in the league and a fun and committed group of players who aspire to make memories with each other – a huge asset and great base for any organisation. Outside of rugby, I run a sales development company, walk my dog and BBQ enthusiastically
