Vets v Camberley Vets

Final Score Guildford Vets 20, Camberley Vets 12

1st Round – Surrey Vets Cup
Dusting off the Crimbo Cobwebs, Guildford Vets players returning from Injury and Family commitments were eager to prove their worth.

With the club balcony full of supporters and a full car park (even cars parked on the further fields) surely the first round of the Cup would produce some “CUP magic”.

Indeed it did, with Camberley and Guildford throwing the ball around and both teams putting in some excellent tackles. Camberly started the game with greater intensity – proving that they wish to join Guildford in the Premier league of Vets rugby. Guildford were not willing to let the visitors get the upper hand and excellent kicking through Playdoh gained some good territory and succeeded with a penalty for Scoops.

It was this intensity that gave Camberley the first try following some rampaging from their back row, their Number 8 scored under the posts making it an easy conversion.

It was “Game On” after the interval at 8-7 and the intensity and physically continued just as it had in the first half. Both teams were called upon to put in several physical, try-saving tackles but with Guildford in the ascendancy they ran in three tries – Will Page (2) & Axel McGuire (1) before Camberley scored towards the end of a cup match that was as entertaining to watch as play in.

The Vets Management summed up the game by saying “The Cup match was intense with both sides deserving the win”. They also thanked Camberley for joining them in the Clubhouse for post match Food, Beer & Stories in true Vets style.
